Three and a half stars
Fantastic follow-up to Floating World, an album which I was fairly obsessed with two years ago. This is a MUCH stronger album, primarily because Erica Froman, the female lead vocalist, is front and center on several tracks. I'm a sucker for well orchestrated harmonies, and this album has them in spades (the second half of opening track "Noni's Field", "Sleeping Torpor", "John J. Audubon", and the sparse closer "Tower of Babel"). I still don't know what they're singing about, but at least it's in English this time. I listened to this album two months ago, and really only dug three songs. I came back to it last week, and everything is hitting on all cylinders. Meanwhile, it's made me realize how many problems Floating World had.
