3 Thoughts about the first two episodes of Twin Peaks

In no particular order:

1. The dream sequence at the end of Season 1 Episode 2 singlehandedly birthed Lost, X-Files, and any other television drama that has attempted an overarching narrative over the past 20 years. I can't overstate how unbelievable the dream sequence is. How did this happen on a major network? During the Bush administration? Amazing production values. The scene (I think) finds its origins in that unbelievable final sequence from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

2. Sherilyn Fenn, Madchen Amick, and Sheryl Lee - an amazing trio for any tv show, much less one in 1990. Note: Lara Flynn Boyle was at her attractive peak, and I don't think she cracks this show's top 3!

3. Leo (Eric Da Re) might be the worst acted re-occurring character on any truly great television show. He's the villain from a soap opera. He really is the show's most trenchant critique of villains from the rest of tv drama: an overstated lug of a truck driver who's line reads may be more fatal than any of the dirt he's supposedly involved in. Twenty dollars says Lynch was supporting EVERY single minute of it. "Good job, Eric! Nice work! Keep it up!" Lynch was the man, remember, who unleashed Billy Ray Cyrus on the acting world.
